Present at project expos
You’ve finished your proposals and now it’s time to share them with Evanston at project expos and online. To prepare:
Send the PB manager your project expo poster using the poster template.
Practice a 2-minute talk to be recorded at the budget delegate project expo prep meeting.
At the project expo, you will present your issue committees’ project ideas to the community in a science-fair format.
The project expo helps community members understand why they should vote for your proposal, how the proposals were created, and how to vote.
We will hold at least 2 Project Expos after voting opens on Saturday, September 2 & 23 near the start and end of voting (Sept 1—30).
We’ll also post your short talk online for people that can make it to the project expo
Prepare poster
To prepare your project expo poster, decide which information you will include from your project proposal. At a minimum, you will need:
Title
Description
Need
Cost
Picture (at least 300dpi)
You can also include other elements of your proposal such as:
Co-sponsors
Outcome of the proposal
Your solution
Feasibility of your solution / comparison for existing solutions
Implementation
Your research
Reference
The name of your committee and members
Then, download the poster template and insert the information about your proposal.
When making your poster, remember to keep it brief—think of the poster as providing key points your audience can quickly read to get the idea and use to start a conversation with you to get the details.
Please use the poster template so that the ideas are presented equally, and no proposal has an advantage due to graphic design ability.
After you develop the poster, share it with your issue committee to get some feedback.
Once your poster is ready, send it to the PB Manager who will print it for the project expos.
Prepare talk
You should also prepare a short talk about your proposal for both the project expo and to post online.
Prepare a 2-minute talk focusing on need, impact on community, why you think this is better than other solutions, research you did, and co-sponsors that support your proposal.
Make sure to practice your talk so you feel comfortable delivering it with only the poster as a guide. You shouldn’t memorize your talk or read off the poster or notes, just explain the poster as if you were describing it to a friend or family member.
Each person should practice the talk a few times until you’re comfortable giving the talk at the project expo.
Record talk
At the project expo prep budget delegate meeting, the city will help you record your talk to post online.
Before the meeting, choose which issue committee member(s) will be recorded and make sure they are prepared to prepare the talk.
Present at project expo
Each budget delegate is responsible for presenting their poster at 2 project expos (or more). Make sure to put the project expos on your calendar and arrange with your teams to cover different 2-hour shifts at the project expo.
